Whats the easiest way to teach this.?
Trying to get one of my boys ready for a show in november.

I have never taught this to a mini,I have to a riding horse but I was in the saddle.

Basically you go back to the whole body language and pressure points.

I would first be trying standing at him head and swining the lead in a circle at his neck or tummy,this may work....it sort of "drives" them with body lanuage.

Or you could stand at his side,and poke him in the side sorta mid way down his rib cage, and tell him to get over,eventually he will pick up when you point at his side it means to move over....
There are plenty to ways to do it....
I have my last show for the year on Sunday,then I am going to be teaching all mine to half pass,find out what works for your horse =)

I am working on this one at the moment. I find the best way is to face him in towards a fence/gate or other obstacle, stand at his side, holding the lead near his head in one hand (this blocks him from just swinging around) and using my other hand to nudge him on the flank and say "OVER" at the same time as I nudge him. Once he takes a few steps, stop and give him lots and lots of praise, then walk him around for a second to take his mind off it, and then do it again.

I found my boy only needed the gate in front of him for a few tries, and after that he was able to move off the cues in an open area as well as over a log (although he is still a little apprehensive about being over something). He still needs the nudge too, but I am gradually using less force on him until he should do it purely off the word, or very little body language.

The biggest tip I can give you is DON'T START TRAINING FOR IT A WEEK BEFORE THE SHOW!!!!!

There is no one method for any training. You need to work out what your horses responds and go from there...methods for a quiet horse won't work for a horse with lots of personality. And remember to keep training sessions short or your horse will become bored and won't want to do anything. Good Luck!
