GGRRR.... it is very frustrating, as much as I have foal envy i really wanted to put this mare to my boy...

Would she make milk if she was not in foal?? She definately has milk today... I always thought waxy nipples meant things were close...

All the girls have gone crazy over V except this one. Rolling Eyes

ETA-I know she doesn't look in foal but she is a maiden mare just turned 3... also I have been locking her up over night as i thought she was getting a little too fat, and was worrying about all the green pick.

I dunno...she sounds like she has you stumped. lol.
Not sure...I would say different factors could make them produce milk when not in foal, but if she is producing milk and she was served then I would more then likely say she is in foal.

But I am no expert I have done a horse breeding course but forget more then I remember!!!

Yes, she has me stumped!! Is she, isn't she? Somedays I think not, other days I am sure she is!

She was not meant to be served... but the lady who bred/owned her said anything is possible...sooo...

I will have the vet out to preg test my other mares.. Lady has been served by V and not returned, also my new mare Sassy is also meant to be in foal and needs preg testing, so I will just get Angel tested too.. I guess... I just want to know now!!

Just so you know, if you only do a urine test on her and she really is pregnant and is more than 300 days gestation, you will get a false result on the test strip.

And while I am in this thread, here is my ugly Shetland mare Mandy who is due some time after 25 January but has already started bagging up......

I would get a vet to check her out...I always get my girls scanned as that way there is no guessing!

Also as for in foal or not in foal, the look of a mare can be very deceiving...I had a mare that didn't show any signs of being pregnant until the last couple of months. I wish I could show picts but I lost my camera but Kay will tell you she much she didn't look in foal.

And Kay, Mandy looks to have dropped a bit too! Wink

I want to join the stumped club too.

Here is Filicia. Served 26-27 April. Was VERY VERY willing to the stallion (never seen anything so desperate as her)

I have done 2 wee tests both neg.

The Stallion inst interested in her. But she is showing to be on heat but nothing compared to what she was in april.

She is getting bigger and bigger. I had to take the dog to the vet yesterday and so i asked about the mare, she seems to think she is in foal.

Cant have her scanned, vets wont do it due to the risks involved but i can have a blood test done, just need to find some money.

What do you all think?

Here is the one I thought was pregnant... But after spending a week in the Jenny craig paddock she has dropped some weight and now looks Un-pregnant lol.
So maybe she isn't oh well.... Still doesn't make sense why she hasnt had a cycle since may.

Here she was in october... She seems to have that dipped belly look which made me think she was in foal compared to what she had back in oct.

IF she is in foal (a big if) she would be due march ish...so still a while off anyway

Oh and I should add that I did see her served by the stallion when she escaped into his paddock.
althought I was not sure if she was in season at the time, but she let him serve her anyway Sabre

Maybe her body isn't ready yet, some don't start having proper cycles and showing until their bodies have finished growing. I have also found that a filly I bought as an 18mth old would never show to the stallions she grew up with (still won't), but she will show to others now that she is a 4yo.

It is perfectly safe to ultrasound mares that are 35" and up...any smaller than that and the readings are inaccurate. But you can also ultrasound the belly if they are far enough along. Alternately you can also do a blood test. I personally don't use the wee tests as too many people complain about the inaccuracy of them and it's only slightly more expensive for my vet to test them and then I have solid proof!

If she is in foal she is 235 days today.

I have been feeling her belly (as much as she lets me) and i am waiting for movement but am not sure if i have felt it or not. Prob too early to feel it anyway.

I guess i just have to wait and see.
